Strength or endurance

Strength and endurance are two fundamental components of physical fitness. Strength describes the ability to overcome or withstand resistance by building up muscle tension. Endurance, on the other hand, is the ability to perform physical activities over a longer period of time with little fatigue. It is characterized by the ability to regenerate quickly.

What are strength or endurance sports?

The following is a selection of sports that are suitable for strength or endurance types:

  • Strength: arm wrestling, equipment training/gymnastics, weightlifting, climbing, rowing
  • Speed sports: crossfit, soccer, rugby, martial arts, shot put, sprinting
  • Endurance: mountaineering, ice skating/racing bike, running/jogging, cross-country skiing, mountain biking, Nordic walking, swimming, skiing/snowboarding, squash, dancing, tennis, hiking
